Bhubaneswar, Nov 19:

Odisha Vigilance today caught Prasanna Kumar Panda — a serving clerk of Public Health Department in Odisha capital — for allegedly demanding and receiving bribe from a contractor.

Vigilance team caught Panda red-handed after he received Rs 2,000 – a single new bill—from the contractor who identified himself as Biswajit Samantray.

According to Samantray, the clerk had initially asked him to pay up Rs 10,000 in new Rs 2,000 bills to get a pending payment worth Rs 1 lakh released. Later though, the deal was closed at Rs 8,000.

“My payment was pending. He didn’t listen to me even though I pleaded with him over 10-15 times and offered to pay up after receiving my dues. He asked me to pay up Rs 10,000 in new bills to get my payment released. I made up my mind and approached the Vigilance instead,” said the contractor.

“There had been a security deposit of 1.5 lakhs. The Clerk– Prasanna Kumar Panda—had demanded Rs 8,000 to release a Rs 1 lakh payment. Today, we got him from his office while taking bribe and have seized Rs 2,000 from him,” said the Vigilance official.
