Koraput, Oct 20:

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi today said that the Odisha government has no concern for the farmers of undivided Koraput, Ganjam and Gajapati districts.

Addressing a farmers’ meeting at Pulabeda ground in Jeypore town after his arrival in the cyclone-hit Koraput district on a one-day visit, Gandhi said his party would raise the plight of the farmers of Koraput district in the State Assembly and Lok Sabha.

Stating that the Congress would fight for ensuring justice to the cyclone-affected people, Gandhi said the matter would be taken up effectively at the central as well as the state level.

The Congress leader later interacted with the farmers of Kotpad, Borigumma and Jeypore blocks.

The meeting, presided over by Jeypore MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati, was attended by AICC Odisha in-charge BK Hariprasad, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Jayadeve Jena and former chief minister Giridhar Gamang.

The Congress vice president later flew to Laxmipur block from where he went to the cyclone-hit Buruja village and interacted with the affected families.

Later, he met the affected families at Gopabandhu Nagar and Indira Nagar after arriving at Pottangi block.

While elaborate security arrangements were made for Rahul’s visit, the Congress leader cancelled his visit to Malkangiri district due to security reasons.
