Salepur, Sep 16:
The main accused in the ashram murder case at Salepur in Odisha’s Cuttack district Anand Atma Baba alias Alok Bisoi was today sent to jail after his bail plea was rejected by a court here.
Earlier in the day, he was presented in the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court of Salepur after his two-day remand got over.
The Baba, on the other hand, pleaded innocence while reacting to questions from journalists on his way to jail.
“I am innocent. I have done no wrong. You need to believe in me,” said a visibly upset Anand Atma Baba repeatedly in a choked voice.
It may be noted that the self-proclaimed godman was arrested on September 13 following the discovery of a half-burnt body, later identified as that of a local youth named Ashok Patra, from his ashram on September 12.
“The Baba and his two nephews are involved in the killing of the youth. They poured ghee on the body after killing him and set him ablaze,” Cuttack SP(Rural) Gurudas Kundu had said after his arrest.
An axe and a club allegedly used in the murder had also been seized from the ashram premises.
Besides, the parents of the deceased claimed that the baba had killed their son because of money. He allegedly had borrowed Rs 40,000 from Ashok Patra, a 35-year old local youth.
