Bhubaneswar, Nov 10:
Protesting the dilly-dallying by the Odisha government over the regularisation of jobs, the Gaon Sathi Sangha Milita Kriyanusthan Committee (GSSMKC) on Sunday announced that it would stage a mass agitation in front of the State Assembly from November 20 to December 2 in support of their long-standing demands.
The Committee said it would stage a series of agitations at the block and district levels as well and a two-day symbolic fast in front of the State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD) on November 12 and 13.
Making an announcement to this effect at a state-level preparatory meeting, president of the Committee Laxmidhar Biswal said the GSSMKC has been demanding that all the Gaon Sathis working under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) be given regular jobs on the basis of their qualification in the Panchayati Raj department, while those who would not get regular jobs should be given minimum remuneration of Rs 5,000 per month.
“If the state government fails to meet our demands by November 2, we would stage a demonstration in New Delhi along with our families. If we succeed in our mission, we would return to our home state. If not, we will move to the neighbouring states to work there as migrant labourers”, Biswal told newsmen after the meeting.
Among others, Soubhagya Mishra, Tapan Patnaik, Pramod Samal, Laxmidhar Mohanty, Satyabhama Mohanty, Pramod Paikray, Batakrushna Mallick, Suresh Nayak, Mina Moharana, Yudhisthir Reddy, Indramani Sahu and Uttam Vaidya were present at the press meet.
