The Odisha government today formed three committees to take its battle with its neighbour West Bengal over the origin of the rasagola one step ahead.
The first committee comprising seven members, to be chaired by the additional secretary of the Science and Technology department, will submit facts on the origin of the syrupy sweet in Odisha within 15 days.
The second committee having four members will study the grounds put forth by West Bengal to stake its claim over the origin of rasagola for fetching the Geographical Indication (GI) tag.
The third committee, with six members, will do necessary documentation in Odisha’s support to place before the Centre for staking the state’s claim for patent over rasagola and GI tag for it.
“The first committee will submit our evidence of the origin of rasagola in our state. The second committee will submit a report after studying the arguments placed by West Bengal in its favour over the origin of rasagola. The third committee will prepare documents in support of our claim for submission within 15 days,” Minister of Science and Technology, Pradip Panigrahi told reporters here today.
