Odisha forest officials have rescued two giant squirrels commonly called as Belra Moosa from Balinolia Sahi here.
Acting on information provided to them, the joint team comprising of officials from Khurda and Puri wildlife division rescued these rodents kept in a cage from here yesterday.
“The rescued giant squirrels will be shifted to Nandankanan Zoological Park, Bhubaneswar. Action will be initiated against the persons who had caged these squirrels,” Khurda honorary wildlife warden Subhendu Mallick said.
Notably, the squirrels are listed in Schedule-I of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
