Odisha flood: Mahanadi crosses danger level at Jobra Barrage

The threat of high floods in the low lying areas in Mahanadi river system in Odisha appeared real with the river crossing the danger mark at Jobra Barrage in Cuttack by 10.30 pm, authorities of the  Barrage said.

Water was recorded to be flowing at the 22.05 mts mark against a danger level of 21.94 mts.

Similarly, the river Kathjodi, a branch river of the Mahanadi, crossed the danger mark at Naraj. The present water level stands at 26.45 mts while the danger mark at this point is 26.41 mts.

River Devi, a branch of river Kathjodi is flowing above the danger level at Dalei Ghai.The water level here was 58.50 ft as against the danger mark of 57 ft, an official of the Water Resources department at Kaijanga told media persons.

Dalei Ghai, a major embankment zone, is considered to be one of the most vulnerable points. If breached, the flood water can cause extensive damage and destruction in a major part of the Jagatsinghpur district.
