“Our government has sanctioned fire stations for all the blocks of the state and there already are 290 fire stations functioning across Odisha. Forty-five more fire stations will be opened this year and at 335, Odisha will have the highest number of fire stations amongst the states,” Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said on the sidelines of 61st National Fire Service Week at Odisha Fire and Disaster Response Academy here today.

We must ensure adequate fire protection and safety measures in multi-storied high-rise apartments coming up in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur, Sambalpur and other cities to prevent fire hazards through regular inspection. There must be effective coordination between the Development Authorities and the Fire Service Department. I urge upon the members of the Odisha Fire Service Department to do their best and render effective service to the people of Odisha, Patnaik said.

Referring to the recent Deogarh bus mishap, Patnaik said: “The Fire and Emergency Services personnel were among the first responder to reach the spot and commence rescue operations.”

The Chief Minister also inaugurated the Fire Training Institute in Cuttack and Watermanship Institute in Puri.

Home Secretary Asit Tripathy, Fire and Emergency Services DG Binoy Behera, senior officers and personnel of fire service department were present on the occasion.
