Bhubaneswar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Odisha Crime Branch arrested Odia film producer Anam Charan Sahoo on charges of Rs 5 crore land fraud.
Sahoo, the power of attorney holder of chit fund firm Seven Hills Estates Limited, was arrested on Friday and was forwarded to special chit fund court in Cuttack.
Earlier, the EOW had arrested two others in the land fraud case.
According to reports, the officials of Seven Hills Estates had duped nearly 200 people on the pretext of providing them plots at Matiapada area under Pipili Tehsil in Puri district between 2003 and 2006. The investors had deposited around Rs 5 crore towards buying 6.71 acre land.
However, the buyers were neither provided land by the company, nor they got back their deposit amount.
Reports said that along with Sahoo, Seven Hills’s managing director Mukta Charan Srinivas and M/s Lingaraj Infrastructure Private Limited duped the buyers.
Sahoo was arrested on basis of a complaint filed by Subhransu Sekhar Senapati, an advocate, in connection with the land fraud in 2016.
The Crime Branch had started investigation based on the allegation and arrested two directors of the Seven Hills Estates — Rohit Saraf and Sajjan Kumar Surekha — in 2016.
Sahoo has produced films like Tu Achu Ta Mun Achi, among others. He had allegedly produced the films duping the investors.
Several investors in and around Berhampur had also earlier lodged complaints against Seven Hills. About 24 cases were registered against the firm for duping the investors.
