Bhubaneswar: Navnirman Krushak Sangathan (NKS), an Odisha-based farmers’ body, which has been demanding ‘price, pension and prestige’ for farmers, today decided to put its agitation on hold till May 5.
A decision in this regard came after four MLAs of the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) held discussion with NKS national coordinator Akshay Kumar. “If the State Government fails to fulfil our demands within May 5, the agitation will resume,” Kumar said.
The NKS had yesterday decided to gherao the State Assembly on March 21 (today) to press their demands.
Worth mentioning, the NKS has been demanding hike of minimum support price (MSP) for paddy to Rs 5,000 per quintal and pension of Rs 5,000 per month for 36 lakh farmers of the state.
Many members of the farmers’ body led by Kumar had been staging protest at Lower PMG here since March 12.
