Odisha’s Purnima Hembram won the bronze medal in the women’s Heptathlon event while the Indian women’s relay team comprising Odisha sprinters Dutee Chand and Shrabani Nanda finished fourth in the women’s 4X100 relay event on Day Two of the Asian Athletics Championship at Wuhan in China today.
This was the first ever senior international medal secured by Purnima. Her team mate Liksy Joseph of Kerala secured the Silver medal in the same event. Uzbekistan athlete secured Gold medal in this event.
Odisha Athletic Association (OOA) honorary secretary Asirbad Behera congratulated Purnima on her feat and announced a cash reward of Rs 25, 000 for her.
Srabani finished in the fifth position in the 100 meter run with her career best time of 11.48 sec.
The Indian men’s 4 x 100 meter relay team, which had Amiya Mallick of Odisha as one of the members, secured the sixth position.
