A preparatory meeting was held under the chairmanship of Odisha DGP KB Singh to chalk out the plan for a smooth conduct of the upcoming Rath Yatra festival in Puri in July.
The meeting was held at the Superintendent of Police office here where as many as nine IPS officers participated in the meeting, sources said.
In view of the huge footfall during the annual festival and possible terror threat to the 12th century shrine, police personnel discussed on various security aspects, traffic management and maintaining law and order situation for an incident-free passage of the festival.
“Based on our experiences of last year, we have decided to improve our arrangements. This year we will be deploying about 10 SPs, 15 ASPs, 48 DSPs, 604 SIs, 78 Havaldars and 462 Constables of Odisha Reserve Battallion (ORB) to oversee the security arrangements. Besides, 145 platoons of Odisha State Armed Police (OSAP), two companies of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), two units of Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), two units of Special Operation Group (SOG), two units of Special Tactical Unit, one unit of National Disaster Rapid Action Force (NDRF) and other forces,” said DGP KB Singh after the meeting.
Rath Yatra is a mega festival in the state where people from various parts of the state, country and world descend on the Holy town to witness the festival. For this, the state government makes necessary arrangements in the city to maintain law and order
