A local court at Rourkela in Odisha’s Sundargarh district today sentenced two persons to life imprisonment for murdering five persons six years back.


Additional Sessions Judge-II of Rourkela Srinivas Pratihari who had earlier convicted Akshay Kumar Swain (75) and his accomplice Fuljam Soren of murdering five persons sentenced them to life today.

On December 28, 2010 while Akshay’s elder son Ajit, his friends Gopal Pradhan, Biswaranjan Satpathy, Phillips Ekka and Budhadev Minz(all engineering students)were having food at his home in Jhirpani area of the Steel City, agitated over some reason in a fit of rage Akshay had allegedly splashed petrol on them and set them ablaze. Two more were also injured in the incident.

The spine-chilling incident had created flutters then.

The court recorded statements of 35 witnesses before convicting Akshay and Fuljam for murder.

The two were sent to Rourkela Special Jail after pronouncement of the sentence.
