The Special CBI Court today reserved its verdict after completing hearing on the plea of Ramchandra Hansda, BJD MP from Mayurbhanj arrested by the CBI inconnection with the Odisha chit fund scam, seeking permission to attend the upcoming budget session of the Lok Sabha.
The court would pronounce its decision in this regard tomorrow. The budget session of the Lok Sabha session, it may be note, begins from February 23.
The Mayurbhanj MP’s counsel Rabindra Nath Patsani requested the court that his client either be granted bail or allowed to attend the Parliament on the grounds that he may lose his seat if fails to attend the session.
Notably, an MP stands to lose his membership of the Hose if he or she remains absent for a period of 60 days at a stretch without permission.
Hansdah, who was arrested by the CBI on November 4 last year for his dubious dealings with chit fund firm Nabadiganta Capital Services Pvt Ltd, was suspended from the BJD by party supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on the day his arrest.
Meanwhile, the CBI court rejected the bail plea of Seashore CMD Prashant Dash’s brother and director of Seashore Securities Ltd Pravat Dash.
CBI had arrested Pravat for his alleged involvement in swindling Seashore funds to the tune of Rs 3 crore.
