A special court in the district headquarters town of Odisha’s Kalahandi today convicted an assistant engineer in a disproportionate assets case.


Special Judge, Vigilance convicted Rabindra Kumar Das, Assistant Engineer of Kudumulugumma Block in Malkangiri. The court sentenced Das to undergo rigorous imprisonment for three years on each count and imposed a fine of Rs 2, 16, 946. Besides, the court directed the convict to undergo six months rigorous imprisonment in default of payment of fine for the offence.

It may be mentioned here that Das, while working as junior engineer in Kokasara block, was caught red handed while demanding and accepting illegal gratificiation. Consequent upon successful trap, the residential government quarters and residence at Jubuli Town in Dhenkanal were searched in June 2004 on allegations of possession of disproportionate assets.

A case was registered under section 13(2) r/w 13(1)9e) Prevention of Corruption Act for accumulating disproportionate assets. Subsequently, charge sheet was filed after thorough investigation.
