Phulbani, Oct 30:

The court of the Additional District Sessions Judge today sentenced a woman to life imprisonment for killing her husband at Budiguda village in Odisha’s Kandhamal district in May last year.

According to the case records, Sadanand Kanhar was staying with his wife Sanju and 10-year-old daughter Banita at Budiguda village under Phiringia police station limits.

However, following a quarrel with her husband, Sanju had left the village and was staying at her paternal house at Sumerbandh village in April last year.

On May 25, Sanju returned to Budiguda village in the late night hours and killed Sadanand with an axe while he was asleep.

After committing the crime, she fled the area.

However, her daughter, who was an eyewitness of the incident, informed the matter to Krushna Kanhar, kin of Sadanand, who lodged a complaint with the police.

The police had arrested Sanju and forwarded her to the court.

After hearing the case, Additional District Sessions Judge Rajendra Kumar Tosh today sentenced Sanju to life imprisonment.
