Maharashtra police today took former chairman of Ponzi firm Oscar Group Prabhas Chandra Rout, and the Group’s director Muna Patra on remand after a local court in the Odisha capital today allowed it to take the duo on a 14-day remand for interrogation in connection with the multi-crore rupees chit fund scam.

The court ordered Maharashtra police to produce the duo before it on November 2, reports said.

Notably, depositors from Maharashtra had lodged their complaints against Rout with the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Odisha Crime Branch here a few months back.

These depositors had recorded their statements and submitted documents in support of their claim with the EOW.  They had claimed that the Group had opened offices in around six places in Maharashtra and had duped depositors there to the tune of Rs 15 crore.

The depositor had stated that they had participated in a programme organized by the Group in Gujarat wherein Ollywood actors Uttam Mohanty, Pappu Pom Pom, Kajal Mishra and Archita had allegedly endorsed the company to invest in it.

Recently, the EOW filed preliminary charge sheet against Rout, General Manager Patra and five others for their alleged complicity in the chit fund scam.
