Odisha couple killed on suspicion of practicing sorcery

Odisha Sun Times Bureau
Keonjhar, Oct 21:

In the second incident of its kind in the  district in the last one mont, the hacked bodies of a couple suspected to have been killed for practicing sorcery were found in the forested area near Kolahundula village under Joda police limits in Odisha’s Keonjhar district today.

After finding the bodies of his parents – Mangal Munda and Sukurumani Munda – in the nearby forest today, the couple’s son Roynath Munda has lodged a written complaint at the Joda police station saying his parents could have been killed on suspicion of practicing witchcraft.

In his complaint naming five persons, Munda said his parents had gone to the forest to collect firewood on Sunday but had gone missing since then. After a frantic search over the last two days, he found them hacked with an axe in the nearby forest today.

Police are tight lipped about the identity of the five named by Munda apprehending that disclosure of the names could prompt the accused to flee the area.

Since the village is located in a forest atop a hill and the terrain is difficult to access, police were still to reach the spot at the time of filing this report.
