Odisha cops to collect traffic fines through debit, credit card

Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate police is planning to launch digital payment system to collect fine amount from people for violating the traffic rules here.

The system will be implemented very soon. If the plan works out, the fine will be collected through mobile banking and wallet in upcoming days, said police commissioner YB Khurania.

The persons violating the traffic rules can make payments through credit or debit card, he said.

Earlier, the fine amounts were collected in cash from the traffic rule violators. Several complaints were also made that the traffic police personnel took money from people giving them duplicate receipt. Besides, many times traffic rules violators refuse to pay spot fine citing lack of cash with them.

In view of all the tactics followed by the rule violators, we are going to launch e-payment system under which collecting fine amount will be easier and there will be no place for alleged duplicate receipt. We are planning to buy around 15 Point of Sale (PoS) machines in first phase, said Khurania.

Under the digital payment system, the fine amount will be directly credited to the bank account of Commissionerate police. An official in rank of ASI will be deployed for operating the PoS machine and collect the fine amount from the traffic rule violators on the spot. A slip will be provided to the person, accused of violating the traffic rules, after paying fine through credit or debit card and another slip will be kept with the official.

Similarly, the swipe machine preinstalled with transport database (BAHAN & SARATHI) will verify the vehicle number against which the fine will be collected, driving license of the person and how much fine amount made by the traffic rule violators.
