“We have registered a case by name against one person and others in the matter. We will catch them soon both the one named in the case and others.Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) and the concerned Inspector In-Charge (IIC) have spoken to the University authorities in this regard. They too are coordinating and cooperating with us in the matter. The victim had a dispute with those boys earlier while he was studying in Plus Two. The incident was a fall-out of the earlier dispute,” he said while answering to queries by reporters on the possible recurrence of such incidents in the prestigious varsity.
On the other hand, mother of the victim while claiming faith on the police, has demanded immediate arrest of the culprits. She has also demanded punishment for those guilty.
“He should be immediately arrested and punished,” said Mira Mohanty, mother of the victim.
“They dragged him and showered blows and kicks. If such things happen inside the campus, I don’t feel Ravenshaw University is safe for students,” she added.
Earlier in the day, ACP Trinath Mishra and IIC of Malgodown police station had visited Lalitgiri Hostel and inquired into the matter.
However, varsity’s Vice Chancellor Prakash Chandra Sarangi again in his reactions over the incident maintained that he was yet to receive a formal complaint in connection with the incident.
After internal committee’s decision, the disciplinary committee will conduct an inquiry and CCTV footage of the hostel will be examined, he added.
Notably, a former student of the Ravenshaw Junior College who had come to check the merit list for admission to Plus Three courses was dragged by some senior students and thrashed near the Lalitgiri Hostel in the Ravenshaw University campus on Monday.
The matter came to fore after a video of the incident went viral on social media as we reported here.
According to latest reports, the accused was sent to jail and his bail plea will be heard by the local court tomorrow.
