Odisha police on Monday picked up a groom from the marriage mandap in movie style which kept the august gathering guessing for such a surprising act.


According to reports, the groom identified as Bikram Patra (35) of Gangeswar village under Cuttack Sadar police limits is a history-sheeter and was wanted since long.

Bikram was to tie the nuptial knot with a woman from Paradip area at Gorakhnath Temple here.

Acting on a tip-off, Cuttack Commissionerate police with help of Tirtol police dressed in plain clothes kept a vigil on the criminal.

The accused covered his face during the marriage after he spotted a police officials from Cuttack Sadar police station among the invitees, but in vain. The sleuths encircled the mandap and asked the priest to complete the rituals without much delay.

As soon as the couple tied the knot, police took him into their custody surprising all.

Notably, a number of cases were pending at both police station against him. He was released from jail after serving 10 years’ term in a murder case but that did not deter him to stay away from criminal activities. He was accused of extorting people and attacking police.
