Odisha cop tonsured on suspicion of practising witchcraft

Phulbani: A constable was allegedly tonsured and forced to drink dirty water by locals, including a security personnel, at Bidangi Sahi under Phulbani police limits in Odisha’s Kandhamal district on suspicion of practising witchcraft.

According to a police complaint filed by the daughter of victim Gaurang Charan Kanhar, health condition of sister of Amarendra Kanhar, a security personnel, had deteriorated following which he approached Gaurang, who reportedly practises sorcery, to cure his sister.

A heated exchange of words ensued between the two on Monday following which Amarendra threatened Gaurang over phone.

Later, a meeting was held at the village to sort out the matter during which Gaurang was held guilty by locals and allegedly kidnapped by Amarendra and his associates who tonsured him and forced him to drink dirty water.

“He threatened me over phone. A meeting was held at the village to resolve the issue. However, he kidnapped me and forced me to drink dirty water besides tonsuring me,” the victim said.

Acting on the complaint, police today arrested four persons.
