Sundargarh: A constable of Special Branch of Odisha Police was allegedly shot at by a youth inside a beer parlour at Khamaripada Chhak in Sundargarh district last night after he intervened in an argument between the accused and others.
The injured cop, identified as Soumendra Sethi, sustained bullet injuries on his neck and was admitted to the Ispat General Hospital (IGH) in Rourkela for treatment. His condition is stated to be stable now.
According to reports, an argument erupted between one Krishna Gupta and some youths inside the beer parlour last night. When Sethi tried to intervene into the matter and pacify them, Gupta opened fire four rounds of bullets, one of which hit the cop’s neck.
The wrongdoer fled the spot soon after the incident. On being informed, police reached the spot and started investigation detaining three brothers of the accused for questioning.
While Gupta has criminal antecedents, efforts are on to nab him, police sources said.
