Rourkela, May 20:
Vigilance sleuths in Rourkela today arrested assistant sub inspector (ASI) Trailokyanath Malla (45) of Mahulpada police station while he was taking a bribe of Rs 2000 from a person of Siridiha village in Odisha’s Sundargarh district.
Sources said a case was registered against Taranisen Majhi, a resident of Siridiha village under Mahulpada police station limits, over some family dispute. The ASI demanded a bribe of Rs 2000 while assuring Tarinisen that he would not be arrested.
Majhi later lodged a complaint with the Rourkela Vigilance in this connection.
Acting on the complaint, a Vigilance team led by DSP P Sethi went to Mahulpada and caught the ASI red-handed while he was receiving the bribe from Majhi.
The Vigilance sleuths later seized the bribe money from his possession and arrested him.
“We are conducting simultaneous raid on the government quarters of Malla at Sector-7 in Rourkela and at his paternal house at Patkura in Kendrapada district. He will be forwarded to Sambalpur court tomorrow,” the Vigilance DSP said.
