Odisha continues to reel under heatwave

Bhubaneswar: As the weatherman is still clueless about the arrival of monsoon, Odisha continue to reel under heatwave as the mercury hovered above 40 degree Celsius at eight places today.

Western Odisha town Titlagarh was the hottest place in the state today recording 43 degree Celsius, said the regional Met centre here.

Sambalpur recorded 42.2 degree Celsius followed by Malkangiri (43), Hirakud (42.2), Angul (40.1 ), Jharsuguda (42.8) and Balangir (41).

The state capital of Bhubaneswar recorded 34.4 degree Celsius while neighbouring Cuttack witnessed 35 degree Celsius.

The coastal Odisha districts also witnessed a substantial rise in the maximum day temperature today.

Balasore recorded 34.6 degree Celsius followed by Chandbali (31.7), Gopalpur (32.8), Paradip (31.4), Puri (34.2) and Baripada (36.6).

As people of Odisha have been waiting for the arrival of monsoon in order get relief from the heat wave, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) is unable to predict its arrival in the state.

The southwest monsoon had already hit Kerala on June 8.
