In a bid to garner support for the party base and strengthen its fight against ruling BJD, Odisha unit of Congress today took out its eighth phase Jagaran Yatra in Rourkela.
The rally started from Pansposh square of the town and culminated at the Sector 21 Congress office here.
Led by Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Prasad Harichandan; Leader of Opposition in Odisha Assembly Narasingha Mishra, AICC Secretary Subhankar Sarkar, former PCC President Jayadev Jena, former Chief Minister Hemanand Biswal were part of the rally among many other senior congress leaders and hundreds of enthusiastic workers.
While seven such rallies have been undertaken in seven different districts of the state, the rally is being held for the second time in Sundargarh district.
“The Jagaran Yatra we took out in this district last time was a massive success. Hundreds of tribals walked with us despite the excruciating heat. Today we are taking out another nine kilometre rally from Pansposh square till Sector 21 Congress office amidst similar support to take the message of Congress to the people,” said Harichandan.
“Our leader Rahul Gandhi started this Jagaran Yatra to fight against the misrule of the Naveen led State Government and the Modi led Central Government. This will continue until they are thrown out of power,” said Jayadev Jena speaking to reporters on the occasion.
Notably, the previous seven rallies were held in Angul, Dhenkanal, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Ganjam, Cuttack and Sundargarh districts.
