New Delhi, Nov 3:

As many as 23 district Congress presidents from Odisha met AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi this afternoon to lobby for Prasad Harichandan’s continuation as PCC President.

The leaders, who had been camping in New Delhi since past two days to meet Gandhi, today presented him a detailed list of activities undertaken by the incumbent to strengthen the organisation in the state. They also reposed their faith on Prasad in the meeting that lasted close to 90 minutes.

Even though AICC Odisha in-charge BK Hariprasad called the meeting a preparatory meet before the upcoming panchayat polls, several sources in the party confirmed that the performance of Prasad was discussed in the meeting.

“Prasad Harichandan is our president. There is no question of his removal. Today, we discussed ways to strengthen his hand further,” said Cuttack District Congress Committee President Mohammed Moquim.

“They have come here to discuss how to fight the local body elections. They have discussed the matter with him in details,” said Hariprasad.

Questioned on the conspicuous absence of the remaining district presidents, he added, “Five of the district presidents, who are MLAs, have already met him. Two of them have written letters expressing their inability to come”.

Meanwhile, former PCC President Niranjan Patnaik today took potshots at Prasad yet again.

“If everything is going so well and people trust us, why are we not getting votes? One can’t get votes by sticking on to the seat of power. We have to focus on our activities too. The success of our strategies and activities will be known only if people accept us,” said Patnaik.
