With protesters and supporters of Bapi Sarkhel hitting the streets following his arrest last night, the Congress strongman was shifted to Alipingala Sub Jail in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district due to security reasons.


According to sources, the trade union leader was shifted from Kujang Sub Jail to Alipingala Sub Jail apprehending security threat to the politician.

Arindam Sarkhel alias Bapi was arrested last night for his alleged complicity in the murder of Mahendra Swain, General Manager of Hyderabad-based Seaways Shipping and Logistics Limited (SSLL).

As lookout circular was issued against him, he appeared before Raghunathpur police along with his supporters from where he was taken to Paradip. Following hours of interrogation, he was arrested in the port town and produced before Kujang JMFC court. Sarkhel was sent to Kujang Sub Jail as his bail plea was rejected.

Police had said that Sarkhel connived with Rakesh Chaubey, who has already been arrested, to eliminate the stevedoring company’s top executive.
