Bhubaneswar, Feb 21:
The coordination committee meeting of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) began at the Congress Bhawan here today under the chairmanship of its state unit president Prasad Harichandan.
Odisha-in-charge BK Hariprasad, Odisha Congress co-in-charge Subhankar Sarkar, leader of Opposition (LoP) in state Assembly Narasingha Mishra, senior party leader Niranjan Patnaik and other senior leaders of the committee participated in the brainstorming session.
As per party insiders, the committee would discuss AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi’s upcoming visit to state, measures to strengthen the party, the party’s stand on dalit and tribal movement, and farmers’s issues among other issues.
OPCC president Prasad Harichandan has convened its first meeting after over six months of formation of a 23-member coordination committee.
With factions within the party wide in the open, the meeting has been convened apparently to quell the growing discontentment in the state organisation.
It may be recalled that AICC spokesperson Bhakta Charan Das had a spat with OPCC president Prasad Harichandan during a meeting to observe the 10th anniversary of implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGS), which was later denied by the duo.
Das was reportedly disgruntled over Prasad inviting former Narla block chairman Ashok Chand to address the meeting.
The matter was, however, put to rest after the intervention of Subhankar Sarkar.
