Veteran Ollywood comedian Jayiram Samal, popularly known as Jayi, was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 5th Royal Stag Mega Movies Odia Filmfare Awards, organized by White Canvas, at Utkal Mandap in the Odisha capital on Saturday.
The award carries a cash award of Rs 10,000, a citation and a gift.
Jayi, who has acted in more than 200 Odia movies, is a household name in Odisha and commands a special place in the film industry.
Besides, Sabyasachi and Archita bagged the best actor and actress award for Odia movie ‘Smile Please’.
Among others, Minaketan won the Best Villain award, Harihar Mohapatra – Best Actor in a comic role, Bijay Mohanty – Best Actor in a character role and Pushpa Panda – Best Actress in a character role.
Sushant Mani and Bikash Das were adjudged the Best Director and Best Music Director respectively.
Apart from these, awards were given in 32 different categories including the Best Cinema Hall, Best Spot Boy and Best Art Director introduced by the organisers for the first time from this year.
A sand art was exhibited by Subala Moharana and team along with a CD by Bapu Lenka in the memory of renowned movie director late Hara Patnaik.
A special programme ‘Asha o Biswas’(Hope and Faith) was also organized for kids suffering from cancer and Rs 1,00,000 was donated for the noble cause.
The event also had an exciting cultural show performed by the artists from Odisha and West Bengal.
Among others, renowned actor Prashant Nanda, managing director of St Xavier’s School GS Patnaik, founder of Odia Filmfare Awards Ullas Chandra Behura, chief advisor Bapu Lenka, Jagananda Tripathy and dignitaries associated with Ollywood industry were also present.
