Filing of nominations for the students’ union elections in all government and private Plus Three and Junior colleges of Odisha began here this morning.
According to reports, filing of nominations, which began at 9 AM, would continue up to noon.
Candidates in several colleges, accompanied by their supporters, took out processions before filing their nominations.
Till reports last came in, there was no untoward incident.
The scrutiny of nomination papers would be held from 2 PM to 4 PM.
The list of the candidates whose nomination pfound valid during scrutiny would be published at 11 AM on September 20 while the candidates would be given the opportunity to withdraw their nominations from 2 PM to 4 PM after which the final list of candidates would be announced at 5 PM.
The “Why I Stand” meeting would be held on September 27.
The election would be held from 8 AM to 2 PM on September 29 while the counting of votes would begin from 2 PM to 6 PM after which the results would be announced.
The oath-taking ceremony would be held at 11 AM on September 30, a day before the weeklong Dussehra vacation.
The Higher Education department has directed the principals of all colleges to strictly adhere to the Lyngdoh Commission’s norms .
Meanwhile, elections in seven colleges have been cancelled following violence.
While the authorities of the BJB Autonomous College on Thursday had cancelled the +3 students’ union election due to violence, the other colleges where the election has been cancelled are Govt College, Angul, Pipili College, Dhamnagar College, Chandbali College, Oupada college and Gopalpur College, Baleswar.
