Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, while reviewing Panchayati Raj Department yesterday, directed for completion of 20 lakh pucca houses for people in rural areas by September, this year.
The CM underscored the need to fulfill the promise of ensuring permanent roof over every head in the state. In the last four years, more than 17 lakh pucca houses have been constructed under the mission.
Besides housing, provisioning basic infrastructure like drinking water, sanitation and lighting to ensure good quality of life for people in villages are top priority of the state government. It has been aimed to provide piped water supply connection to at least two villages in each Gram Panchayat by the end of 2018-19.
Patnaik lauded the performance of the Department in housing, skill development, job guarantee & welfare measures. Odisha has been recognised as the best State in Skill Development of rural youth for second time in two years. It ranks highest in Anganwadi construction and provisioning work under MGNREGS.
He directed officials to ensure completion of all projects in time so that people enjoy the benefits as early as possible.
