Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today expressed grief over the demise of former Lok Sabha Speaker PA Sangma.
The former Chief Minister of Meghalaya, founder member of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Purno Agitok Sangma passed away in the national capital this morning following a brief illness. He was 68.
In his condolence message, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik tweeted: “My deepest condolences to family of former Lok Sabha Speaker #PASangma on his sad demise.”
Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also condoled the death of the politician.
“The departed leader maintained high levels of transparency and competence in his social and political life. The nation has lost a dedicated leader following the demise of PA Sangma,” Pradhan said in a statement.
May God give strength to the family members of the departed soul to bear with the loss. May his soul rest in peace, he added.
“Sangma was a fine human being who believed in simple living. His death is a great loss for this country. He will always be remembered for his skilled handling of affairs as the Lok Sabha Speaker,” said former NCP MLA and now BJD Spokesperson Amar Prasad Satapathy.
“He had a deep connection with Odisha. There were four MLAs of NCP in Odisha back then and all of us had backed him to run for Presidential polls even before NCP took a call on this at national level,” he recounted.
