Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today condoled the death of the lone survivor among the 10 soldiers who fell victim to the avalanche at the Siachen Glacier.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed his grief over the demise of the army jawan Lance Naik Hanmanthappa Koppad who was admitted to Army Research and Referral Hospital in New Delhi in a critical condition.
“Hanmanthappa was a brave soldier. His demise has saddened the nation. The country would be ever proud for his service and his sacrifice would be an inspiration. May his soul rest in peace,” Patnaik said in a release.
Patnaik had also tweeted yesterday for his speedy recovery. Today also he took to the mico-blogging site to condole the death of the soldier.
“Deeply saddened by the passing away of braveheart #Hanumanthappa. May his soul find eternal peace. My deepest prayers for his family,” Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik tweeted today.
After battling for three days, Koppad breathed his last at 11.45 am today. He was miraculously found alive after remaining buried under huge mass of snow for six days at Siachen Glacier.
Notably, the Siachen Glacier is the highest and coldest battlefield in the world at an average altitude of 20,000 feet. It is located at the northern tip of Kashmir.
