Odisha CM asks for timely fund utilisation of programmes in backward dists

Chief minister Naveen Patnaik today directed the concerned departments to ensure timely utilisation of funds earmarked for state sponsored programmes in the backward districts of Odisha, a official press release said.

Naveen PatnaikPresiding over a high-level review meeting on the progress of Biju KBK Yojana, Biju Kandhamal-Gajapati Yojana (BKGY) and Gopabandhu Gramin Yojana (GGY) at the State Secretariat here, Patnaik asked the concerned authorities to finalise action plans for these programmes for 2014-15 and complete the District Planning Committee meetings by November 20.

He also laid emphasis on the implementation of pipe water supply projects under these programmes.

It was revealed at the meeting that priority has been given on power, road and water in the GGY being implemented in 10 districts, which have been deprived of Backward Regions Grant Fund (BRGF) since 2006-07 fiscal.

A total of 69,151 projects at a cost of Rs 1166.40 crore have been completed since the inception of the programme on October 9, 2006.

A budget outlay of Rs 225 crore has been made for the programme for the current fiscal.

Besides, funds utilisation under the Biju KBK Yojana since 2006-07 is Rs 699.03 crore which is 81 percent of the total budget allocations (Rs 800 crore) while Rs 95.96 percent funds utilisation has been made under BKGY which is 67 percent of the total budget allocations (142.50 crore).

Among others, Women and Child Development and Planning and Coordination minister Usha Devi, Panchayati Raj minister Arun Sahu, Development Commissioner AP Padhi, secretary, Panchayati Raj Deo Ranjan Kumar Singh and senior officials of the concerned departments were present at the meeting.
