Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has once again stepped up his efforts to connect to the masses in the run-up to 2019 polls by launching another welfare scheme today that will cover a sizeable majority of the population in the State.

The CM announced ‘Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana’, universal health coverage, which will provide benefits to around 3.5 crore people from over 70 lakh families in the State.

Under this programme, a family will get up to Rs 5 lakh per annum to meet healthcare expenditure at all government-run hospitals.

“One of our major commitments is universal health coverage. Today, in this regard, I am happy to announce that each and everyone visiting any government health institution from district to sub-centre level will be provided all health services free of cost,” Naveen told reporters here this evening.

The State governmnet, under this scheme, will provide Rs 500 to meet pick up and drop expense of pregnant women and infant admitted to government hospitals.

“Drop back assistance of Rs 500 will be provided to all pregnant women and infant who visit public health facilities,” the CM added.

All the three initiatives will be implemented by the State Government from August 15 this year, he informed.
