In a step towards turning Rourkela into a smart city, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, today announced Rs 400 crores for an underground drainage system for the steel city.
He also declared Rs 260 crore housing scheme for the slum dwellers of Rourkela city.
The chief minister, on a one day visit to Sundergarh district made these announcements during the Nirmana Shramik Saptaha (Construction Workers’ Week ) programme held in Rourkela Birsa Munda stadium.
Earlier in the day he had inaugurated a bridge over the Koel river in Jhirpani area, constructed at a cost of Rs 12 crores, 60 lakhs .
Union minister Juel Oram, Industry minister Prafulla Mallick, MLA Mangala Kisan, MLA Subrat Tarai, RDA chairman Sarada Prasad Nayak were also present during the occasion.
The chief minister will inaugurate 17 projects and also lay foundation stones for various welfare projects worth Rs 120 crores in the district, according to official sources.
Under the scheme, the state government will provide an assistance of Rs 1 lakh to each registered construction worker of the state for house construction.
Notably, the chief minister had launched Pucca Ghara Yojana (concrete housing scheme) for construction workers of the state in the capital city on February 20.
