Twenty four civil society organisations in Odisha, who had staged a rally at lower PMG, Bhubaneswar on August 25 and submitted memorandum to the chief minister, Odisha demanding CBI Inquiry into the illegal acquisition of precious government land in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, have decided to launch a three-day mass protest dharna at the Lower PMG, Bhubaneswar from September 10 to 12 to protest lack of any response from the government and to press for a CBI Inquiry into the entire land scam.
In a joint press release issued today, the civil society organisations have said, ” The CAG Report on General and Social Sector ( Volume-1 and 2) has exposed the day-light robbery of state exchequer by illegally taking precious government land in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack at throw away prices by a coterie of politicians, bureaucrats, business houses, private educational institutions and a few so-called powerful people of the state, resulting in the loss, estimated to have been more than Rs 1 lakh crore.”
Stating that although the CAG expose’ is just the tip of the iceberg, as its audit was limited to only a few test cases, the release said the report has come up with undeniable proof and evidence of how a dubious nexus among the vested interest groups comprising politicians, bureaucrats and business class have been systematically working to plunder the public wealth of Odisha.
“In quite many cases, ministers, MLAs and officers were not only involved in amassing huge fortunes for themselves by corrupt means, but also served as masterminds for allotting prized lands to private companies and institutions at throw-away prices,” the release said.
Eminent citizens inclusing Gandhian and former MLA Padma Ch. Nayak, retired District Judge Uma Charan Mishra, Er Jagabandhu Sarangi, Dr. Madhusudan Mishra, advocate Sudhir Mohanty, RTI activist Pradip Pradhan, Seshadev Nanda, Sachikant Pradhan, Prof. Jantrana Parikhit, , Jiauddin Hindustani, Arun Jena, Bijay Parida, Malaya Tripathy, Kahnu Ch. Beura, Ms Mamata Samantaray, Ashok Nanda, Sudarshan Chhotaray, Niranjan Biswal, Pratap Sahu, advocate Naresh Jena have appealed to people from all walks of life to participate in the mass protest dharna to demand a CBI probe and to strengthen the people’s movement against land grabbers.
The civil society bodies which are taking part in the protest action include Odisha Soochana Adhikar Abhijan, Odisha Durniti Sangarsha Manch, Odisha Lok Adhikar Sangathan, Naba Nirman Samiti, Zilla Chasi Sangathan, Balasore, Proutist International, Odisha Swaviman Manch, Odisha Basti Sangharsh Samiti, Lok Sangharsh Samiti, Odisha Gharoi Sangharsha Samiti, Odisha International Center, Odisha Krushi O Krushaka Surakshya Manch, State Progressive Women’s Forum, Milita Nisha Birodhi Abhijan, India Against Corruption, Odisha, Odisha Lok Samukhya, Odisha Nagarik Samaj, Odisha Jana Adhikar Parishad and Dharmashala Samukhya Manch.
