Jaleswar, Oct 13:
Even as the CBI is bracing up for an investigation in th next couple of days into the murky dealings of Green Ray International Ltd (GRIL)as part of its probe into the mega chit fund scam in Odisha a mysterious fire broke out at the head office of the company at Jaleswar town in Baleswar district on Sunday morning destroying all assets and official documents.
According to reports, the fire was spotted at the company office at about 10.30 AM. Following information, a fire brigade team rushed to the spot and entered the office premises after breaking open the main gate that was found locked.
The firemen went up to the first floor of the building through the ladder and tried their best to douse the fire by breaking open the shutters.
After three-hours of effort, the fire was brought under control. But by that time, the company assets and documents inside the chambers of the managing director and director of the company had already been reduced to ashes.
Though it was initially believed that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit, it was later revealed that the authorities of the Northern Electricity Supply Corporation (Nesco) had disconnected power supply to the office of the company on account of non-payment of dues since last six months.
Sources in the locality said someone must have entered the office room of the MD and director of the company and set them on fire.
It is now believed that it was the handiwork of some of the staff of the company, who had deliberately set the office on fire to destroy the evidence of the transaction of the company that has swindled over Rs 500 crore from around 1.5 lakh customers in Odisha.
