Bhubaneswar, May 18:
Hundreds of chit fund scam victims of Odisha under the banner of Arthika Sanstha Mananka Dwara Kshyatigrastanka Milita Mancha (ASMDKMM) today took out a rally in Balasore protesting against the government apathy towards refund of their investment.
The agitators, a large number of whom included investors and chit fund company deposit agents, started the rally from the town station and marched up to the Collector’s office.
Led by senior journalist Rabi Das among others, the protesters asked the government to finish identification of the investors and return back the investment to the depositors.
“ASMDKMM has been fighting for the interest of the depositors since past three years. They lost their money because of negligence on part of the government. On the eve of 2014 general elections, the government assured the victims that they would get back their money. However, that has not happened yet,” said Das speaking to reporters.
“Even though a corpus fund was formed, refund process has not been able to make much progress as the identification of the victims is yet to be complete. The government ran away from a discussion on it in the Assembly even though the issue led to a session washout,” he added.
