The CBI, which is investigating the mega chit fund scam in Odisha, today produced a newspaper owner and former chief of a chit fund company in the CBI Special Court here.
According to reports, the CBI produced Bikash Swain, owner of an Odia daily and Ranjan Das, former head of Swastik India Multipurpose Credit Cooperative Society in the court of Special (CBI) Chief Judicial Magistrate.
Soon after producing the duo in the court, the CBI appealed to the court to allow it to take them on a 14-day remand since they have revealed vital information- on the links of top political leaders, bureaucrats, police officers and journalists had with chit fund business- during interrogation.
The court, which began the hearing of the CBI plea, will give its ruling this later in the day, reports said.
Earlier, the CBI conducted a health check-up of Swain and Das in the hospital.
The CBI also produced Artha Tatwa (AT) Group CMD Pradip Sethy and accountant Srikrushna Padhi in the court as their remand tenure ended today.
Sources said that the lawyers of these four accused are most likely to file bail applications on their behalf during the day.
