Bhubaneswar, Nov 18:
The CBI this evening arrested Subhankar Nayak, the land broker whose house in Chandrama Apartments in Kharavela Nagar here was raided by the agency earlier in the day in connection with the Odisha chit fund scam.
Nayak had been arrested for his questionable links with the Seashore group, a major player in the chit fund scam, CBI sources said.
He reached the CBI office here for questioning at around 4.30 pm in the afternoon and was closeted with CBI sleuths for several hours before his arrest was formally announced late in the evening.
Several incriminating documents, besides two gold biscuits and Rs 15 lakh in cash, had been seized during the raid at his residence in the morning, sources in the central agency said.
“He was arrested on the basis of the documents seized from his residence during the raid, which prima facie establish the fact that he was acting as a conduit for channelisation of money from the Seashore group,” a CBI official said.
He was an influence peddler and acted as the middleman between Seashore and top bureaucrats, the sources said.
