Odisha chit fund probe panel to submit interim report in 45 days

The Commission of Inquiry on the mega chit fund scam in Odisha headed by Justice MM Das has decided to submit its interim report to the state government within 45 days.

In its interim report, the Commission will suggest to the government refund of the money to small investors who have deposited Rs 10,000 or less in chit fund companies, sources privy to the deliberations said.

The Commission, in the meanwhile, has identified the small investors.

Out of nearly 17 lakh affidavits received by the Commission, verification of about eight lakh affidavits has been completed of which 4.13 lakh affidavits have been scanned and computerised.

Besides, the Commission is verifying around 10,000 affidavits sent by post.

The database of one lakh affidavits has been completed based on which the Commission will identify small investors and submit a list to the state government within 45 days for refund of their money, sources in the office of the Commission said.
