Bhubaneswar, July 13:

Odisha Chief Secretary Jugal Kishore Mohapatra has been appointed the new Union Secretary of the Department of Fertilizers in the Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers.

Mohapatra, who had expressed a desire to move to the Centre on deputation, has been given the new assignment along with six other senior IAS officers in the rank of Secretary.

1978 batch IAS Sanjay Kothari is new Secretary DoPT, 1979 batch IAS Ranjan S Katoch is new Secretary Heavy Industries, 1980 batch IAS N Ravi Shanker is Secretary Administrative Reforms, Public Grievance, Pension and Pensioner’s Welfare, 1980 batch IAS Rakesh Garg is Secretary Telecommunications.

1979 Batch IAS Mohapatra, known to have been a stickler for rules, has completed one year as the chief secretary of the state. His elevation to a top post in one of the crucial economic ministries of the Union Government has brought cheer to many of his admirers in the state.

While Mohapatra is likely to take up the new assignment at the Centre in two weeks’ time, the Odisha government which had been in search of a senior officer as his replacement, has apparently zeroed in on a senior Odia IAS officer, now on Central deputation.

Reliable sources say 1978 Batch IAS officer Gokul Chandra Pati will most likely be taking over as new Chief Secretary of Odisha soon.

Pati is now posted as Union Secretary of Defence Production in the Ministry of Defence.

The chief Minister has already given his nod, sources said, for the appointment of Pati as the new chief secretary of Odisha and a formal request letter to Union Government in this regard has already been sent, the sources revealed.

Besides Mohapatra, Union Government has appointed two other Odia IAS officers in the Union Government as Secretaries.

1980 batch IAS Sanjay Kumar Panda has been appointed Secretary in the Ministry of Textiles. Panda was Chief Secretary Tripura for a long time and has a very good track record.

Another 1980 batch IAS officer, Hara Krushna Das, who hails from Odisha, has been appointed Union Secretary Inter State Council Secretariat. Das is a Gujarat cadre IAS.
