Odisha Crime Branch (CB) police today busted a racket involved in inter-state trafficking of girls and women.
The CB today arrested six persons including a woman and a minor girl for their alleged involvement in trafficking of girls and women, police said.
Police said the arrested persons are Jaga alias Jagabandhu Sahani (30), Amlan Kumar Pati alias Rabi (28), Ramesh Das (28), Kumari Gouda alias Gitanjali Gouda (35), Lipu Nayak (30) and a minor girl aged 16.
These persons were involved in trafficking women and girls from different parts of the state to Delhi and Haryana through Bhubaneswar, police added.
Investigations by the police revealed that one Jagabandhu Sahani alias Jaga of Kandhamal district was the mastermind who was running the racket with its tentacles spread across different parts of the country.
“According to preliminary investigations it is an organized inter-state woman trafficking racket in some people are from Odisha and some are from outside Odisha. Some young women have been trafficked and they have been subjected to physical exploitation. They were lured on promises of marriage and later subjected to exploitation. Basing on a victim’s complaint we have registered a case. Integrated Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (IAHUT) of the Crime Branch has taken up the case for investigation. We have arrested six persons by now. Out of them four are men and two are women. We have rescued two victims of this racket and recorded their statements. We have information on two more victims and some accused persons. We are trying to arrest the other accused,” said B K Sharma special DG Crime Branch here today.
