Boudh, Nov 5:
An Odisha cadre IPS officer lost his cool after he was allegedly offered bribe by one of his juniors.
The incident has come to the fore from Boudh district where an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of police Prahlad Kanhar offered Boudh Superintendent of Police B Gangadhar a bribe of Rs 20, 000.
According to reports, Kanhar’s two-month salary was held back due to his long absentism owing to health reasons. After representations, the top cop ordered for release of salary giving much relief to Kanhar.
Moved by his senior’s gesture, Kanhar reportedly offered Gangadhar Rs 20, 000 at the district headquarters office for approving paid leave of two months during which the former was on leave on medical grounds.
The ASI was undergoing treatment for psychiatric ailments, reports said.
Irked over this, the SP allegedly beat up and even booted the ASI, which has been refuted by the former.
“I had thought of giving his Rs 20, 000 for releasing my salary. When I offered him, Sir, beat me with his hand three-four times and even with his chappal three-four times,” ASI Prahlad Kanhar said.
However, SP B Gangadhar has refuted the allegations.
The incident took place almost three weeks ago, sources added.
