The Odisha Cabinet, which meets today, is likely to give its stamp of approval to the paddy procurement policy for Kharif season of 2014-15.
While the total procurement of rice in the state during 2013-14 was to the tune of 28.4 lakh tons, a proposal to raise the minimum rice procurement target to 32 lakh tons for the next year will come up for approval, said informed sources.
The cabinet is also likely to approve a proposal to fix minimum procurement price for ordinary paddy at Rs 1,360 a quintal while fixing Rs 1400 for Grade-A paddy.
Moreover, the cabinet meeting today will take a decision on the modalities for smooth procurement of paddy from the farmers.
The cabinet is also likely to extend its approval to proposals for exemption of water cess to OPGC, imposition of an ordinance for eviction of encroachers from encroached government land, construction of canal embankments etc.
There are at least ten proposals which will be taken up for discussion and approval during the cabinet meeting, sources added.
