Bhubaneswar, July 20:
The Odisha government on Saturday put all the district collectors on alert over the threat of possible floods in view of the Met department’s forecast that many parts of the state are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next four days.
The office of the Special Relief Commissioner’s (SRC), in its communication asked the district collectors to ensure that the Emergency Operation Centres (EOC) are activated and steps taken for the stocking of food and other essential items in inaccessible and vulnerable areas.
The Met department has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall across north Odisha on Sunday while predicting extremely heavy rainfall in some parts of interior Odisha on July 22.
The SRC’s office said it had asked all district level officers to remain present at theire respective headquarters as continuous heavy rainfall could result in flood in a number of rivers in the state.
In its advisory, the SRC’s office has also asked the districts to ensure boats are kept ready in flood-prone areas to tackle the eventualities following the possible flood situation.
