Odisha boy Soundarya Kumar Pradhan has brought laurels for the state after winning bronze medal at International Braille Chess Association (IBCA) Asian Chess Championship at the Dr TMA Pai Hall at Manipal which concluded on Friday.
The 18-year-old visually challenged Bargarh boy bagged the bronze medal. Kishan Gangolli and Makwana Ashwin K from India clinched the gold and silver medals respectively.
Asian countries like Bangladesh, Philippines and Sri Lanka participated in the 10-day event.
Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan congratulated Pradhan on achieving the feat.
“Soundarya Kr Pradhan, a boy from Bargarh has done Odisha proud by winning Bronze medal in Asian Chess Championship for the visually impaired,” Dharmendra Pradhan tweeted.
