Odisha boat tragedy: Bodies of all six missing persons fished out

Koraput, May 30:

With the fishing out of five more bodies today from Jalaput reservoir in Odisha’s Koraput district, the search operation launched by the local administration to locate six persons who went missing following a boat capsize tragedy on May 24 in the reservoir has come to a close, reports said.

One body had been recovered on Thursday.

The district administration has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 12,000 to the next of kin of each of the deceased, the reports added.

It may be recalled that seven persons from Chitalpada village under Nandapur block on May 24 morning hours had gone to Muchimput haat in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.

While returning to their village, tragedy struck them near Padua village as the country boat in which they were travelling capsized in the reservoir after being caught in a storm.

While one person Nagesh Khemundu, was rescued by some villagers of Padua who were present near the reservoir bank when the incident took place, other six Bada Khemundu, Arjun Khemundu, Bimala Khemundu, Radha Khila, Athama Khemundu and Basu Pangi had gone missing.

The district administration had pressed fire brigade and ODRAF teams in the rescue operations following the tragedy.
